This project was my very first journey into the world of design, with the kind designers at Captivape taking me through the design process from drafting to manufacturing at the age of 16. This was early in the era of “mods,” when most e-cigs were designed and built by turning blanks in garages. I saw a problem with how efficient the genesis systems were at that time, so I decided to design the first reduced-chamber “mini-genesis,” built from community feedback and manufactured here in the USA.
Overview
- Context
Early in the era of mods, when most e-cigarette hardware was turned from blanks in home garages.
- Problem
The genesis-style atomizers of the time weren't efficient.
- Design response
The first reduced-chamber mini-genesis atomizer, shaped by community feedback.
- Process
Drafting through manufacturing, guided by the designers at Captivape.
- Manufacturing
Made in the USA.
Design language
Machined, functional, community-built: hardware designed the way the early mod scene made things.
- Form
Stacked turned rings and a reduced chamber, every part shaped on a lathe.
- Detail
Vent holes and a compact deck, shown exploded to reveal how it goes together.
- Presentation
Shown in neon pink and teal light, so the turned edges and threads read as graphics.
