The purpose of this coral form study was to understand organic forms and how they can be applied in different ways. The form was taken as inspiration for CNC-routed panels, as conceptual ideas for sound dampening and large-scale coarse water filtration.
Overview
- Study
Understanding the organic form of mushroom coral and how it can be applied elsewhere.
- Applications
CNC-routed panels, as concepts for sound dampening and large-scale coarse water filtration.
Design language
Reading a natural form for what it could become: folded, ruffled surfaces translated into something a machine can cut.
- Form
The folds and ridges of mushroom coral, captured as one continuous rippling surface.
- Translation
Sectioned into contour ribs, so the form can be CNC-routed as panels.
- Application
Concepts for sound dampening and large-scale coarse water filtration.
- Finish
Glossy black, lit to show every fold.
